HOUSE of DELEGATES REPORT

Overview of the House of Delegates meeting:
- SNM will hold the HOD meeting @ 6:00 pm on the night prior to the start
of the Board of Directors meeting
- The seat on the AMA House of Delegates is based on membership {must have
250+ to have a seat} this has been met with a seat for the next 5 years
- PET Center of Excellent Research to increase utilization of PET and CT
by CMS with reimbursement
- Educational workshop at chapter meetings
- EFR general fund from donations from leadership
- Molecular Imaging Center of Excellence has a 5 year plan funded by the
$5 million bench to bedside campaign ($4.5 million raised thus far)
- Definition of molecular imaging - visualization, characterization, and
measurement of biological processes at the molecular and cellular levels in
humans and other living systems
- McKinley Marketing, for the rebranding for molecular imaging - we are SNM
Advanced Molecular Imaging and Therapy not society of nuclear medicine
- Technologist training must include SPECT/PET CT in all programs by 2010
- curriculum approved
- Technologist entry level BS degree by 2015 - curriculum approved
- Advance practice for Nuclear Medicine will be in place fall of 2008 or
spring 2009
- Technologist leadership is trying to attend chapters across the US
- Care Bill will be submitted again this year
- SNM Board has restructured to have four main committees:
- Radiopharmaceutical
- Education
- healthcare practice
- finance
- Committee on Chapters chaired by Dr. Mike Middleton from SW Chapter
- major issues within the chapters all have common concerns: increase CT readings,
SAM
- educational sessions at chapter meeting
- To help SNM facilitate through policies a new FAQ about USP797 has been
created
- SNM and ASCO will host joint sessions on breast cancer
- $150 million for new reactor for Mo99 in the US
- SNM Clinical Trials Network - overview IND (investigational new drugs)
for imaging biomarkers at specific centers - being done jointly with SNM,
RSNA, and FDA
- Publications - a resolution passed for the JNT to extend 1 year to Dr.
Sholber to overlap the incoming
- Academic Council - a resolution passed to change from Bob Lull Memorial
Lecture to the Tom Miller Memorial Lecture because there are two Bob Lull
Memorial Lectures at this time
- Strategic Plan Review Task Force is in place to develop a system to evaluate
the progress of SNM strategic plan on an annual basis, establish a process
to provide reports to BOD regarding the strategic plans effectiveness and
vision using a dashboard format, Deborah Havens is a part of this task force
- Capital Campaign "Bench to Bedside"
- Advocacy: reimbursement and research funding,
- Outreach: md's, patient groups, funding agencies, regulators and general
public
- Education: position SNM as central education repository for molecular imaging
- Research: assist new investigators in the field of molecular imaging
- Support by corporate pledges with a goal of $5 million; $4.5 raised with
over $250,000 from individuals
- A 5 year plan now in place
